My online crush turns out to be my roommate Chapter 1

Chapter 01

My Online Crush Turns Out to Be My Roommate

Last year, on a niche dating app, I met a guy.

He had the sweetest mouth, always knew just what to say to make me smile.

Before long, we made things official.

Honestly, I just wanted an online fling. I never planned on meeting in real life.

It was only to fill the emptiness I felt during my university days at Minglan University.

But then, Jin Hao suddenly moved back into our dorm.

That’s when I realized the person I’d been calling “baby” for a year was actually my infamous roommate.

I was doomed.

He’d moved out of the dorm because of me in the first place.

Ding....

My phone buzzed with a message from Jin Hao:

“Babe...My dad cut off my card, so I have to move back into the dorm.”

I was sweating bullets.

If Jin Hao ever found out I was his online lover, I’d be dead meat.

I had to figure out a way to break up fast!.
Three minutes passed without a reply from me. Jin Hao sent another message.

“Babe, why aren’t you answering? Are you busy?”

I never would have guessed that the ruthless campus kingpin was such a softie in private.

With trembling hands, I typed out a reply.

“Busy”

I still hadn’t come up with an excuse to break up.

Recently, I read a post about a couple who broke up because of emotional neglect.

Maybe I could try that.

Jin Hao messaged again: “Okay, babe, I’ll let you get back to it. I’m going to unpack.”

“Mmm” I replied.

I watched him across the room, unpacking his things.

Damn it.

I just wanted a fun romance to end my college life on a high note.

Never thought it’d turn into a nightmare.

Everyone at Minglan University knew Jin Hao and I were sworn enemies.

It all started at the freshman welcome ceremony.

I was so nervous giving my speech that I accidentally pronounced his name as “Jin Mouse” instead of “Jin Hao.”

The whole department burst out laughing.

After that, he never forgave me.

Freshman year, I had a crush on a girl for weeks and finally worked up the courage to confess.

But on the day I confessed, she told me she liked Jin Hao.

As she walked off with him, he shot me a smug look.

It was pure, unfiltered gloating.

That night, heartbroken and drunk, I came back to the dorm and puked all over his bed.

Jin Hao was furious. I nearly got down on my knees to apologize.

I even bought him a new set of sheets, but he wasn’t having it.

He moved out the next day.

After that, I figured he could steal the girls, but there’s no way he’d steal the guys, right?

So, I downloaded a BL dating app.

Found a guy with a great voice and the same values as me.

I just wanted to date online until graduation nothing serious.

But a week ago, Jin Hao, out of cash, moved back into the dorm.

I sent a bunch of messages to my online boyfriend.

At the same time, Jin Hao’s phone on his desk buzzed several times.

Could it really be?

I snuck a glance and saw that the contact “Yu Baby” was messaging him.

I panicked.

But then I thought there are lots of people with the same name.

I wanted to investigate further, but Jin Hao came out of the bathroom, wearing nothing but a towel.

Water dripped from his hair, tracing down his face and over his eight-pack abs.

Who knew that skinny Jin Hao was so ripped underneath his clothes?

I swallowed hard.

He shot me a look of pure disdain.

I crawled back into bed.

“Babe, I just got out of the shower and didn’t see your message.”

Jin Hao replied to my message, and I got the notification instantly.

I didn’t dare listen to the voice message just read the text translation.

Every word matched exactly.

At that moment, I wished lightning would strike me down.

Jin Hao started a voice call. I hadn’t muted my phone, so he glanced over at me, confused.

I didn’t dare answer.

I quickly muted my phone and started talking to myself.

“So late and you’re going out for a midnight snack?”

“Wait for me, I’ll be right there.”

I have to admit, my improvisation skills are top-notch.

Then I pretended to hang up and rushed out of the dorm.

That night, I didn’t dare go back.

Jin Hao called me several more times.

I used the excuse that I’d lost my voice to avoid answering.

If he recognized my voice, I’d be toast.

Jin Hao is a rich kid.

Recently, he had a falling out with his family.

With no cash flow, he had no choice but to move back into the dorm.

It’s making me seriously anxious.

Who said time heals all wounds?

Jin Hao still goes out of his way to mess with me.

The dorm is tiny, but he always manages to block my path.

If I go left, he goes left. If I go right, he goes right.

Finally, he huffed impatiently, and I quickly stepped aside, gesturing for him to go ahead.

He snorted and walked past.

Why don’t I stand up to him?

Because I’m scared. Self-preservation comes first.
Back in freshman year, Jin Hao once took on five thugs from another school and won.

That story spread all over campus.

Anyone with half a brain knows not to mess with him.

As soon as he walked past, my phone buzzed with another message from him.

“Babe, there’s this annoying roommate in my dorm.”

I snuck a glance at Jin Hao.

He was clutching his phone, looking all hopeful.

I realized I could use my online identity to my advantage.

Maybe I could get him to see me in a better light.

Then, if he ever found out, at least I wouldn’t be completely doomed.

“Don’t you like your roommate?”

“Nope.”

“Why not?”

“He embarrassed me in front of the whole department during the freshman speech.”

Wow, he’s still holding a grudge.

I tried to reason with him.

“Maybe it was just a mistake?”

“He got drunk and puked on my bed.”

He even added a few pitiful emojis.

Fine, so you want to complain, huh?

I replied patiently: “Maybe he just got the beds mixed up”

The truth is, I really did.

His bed was in the same spot as my high school bed. When I was drunk, I just collapsed there and puked.

“I don’t care. I just can’t stand him.”

“Don’t defend him.”

He sent a string of angry emojis.

I wondered how I could get him to see me differently.

He messaged again.

“Babe, I didn’t mean to be harsh with you”

I sent a head-patting emoji in reply.

Heavens, what did I do in my past life to deserve this punishment?

Our professor assigned a group project.

And, of course, it had to be done by dorm room.

Even worse, we had to split into pairs within the dorm.

The four of us looked at each other.

I was about to speak: “I.....”

But my roommate, Lin Chen, jumped in first.

He grabbed Meng Yu and shook his hand.

Damn, they were ditching me, leaving me paired with Jin Hao.

“Shouldn’t we show a little class spirit?” I pleaded with my eyes, hoping they’d show some mercy.

Meng Yu leaned in and whispered loudly, “Here’s your chance to make peace with Jin Hao.”

He was so loud, he didn’t even need to whisper.

“Is that your idea of a secret?”

I glanced at Jin Hao his face was stone cold. I pulled out my phone and sent a message.

“Babe, I have to do a group project with my annoying roommate. I don’t want to.”

I used the bathroom as an excuse to reply:

“Maybe you’ll finally get to make up with your roommate.”

Jin Hao replied instantly: “No way.... Just seeing his face annoys me.”

Hey, what’s with the personal attacks? I’m not that bad-looking.

“Ugly.”

Wow, throwing shade in English now?

I gritted my teeth and typed furiously.

“Well, you’d better do your part and not make your roommate fail. If you don’t behave, I won’t talk to you anymore, baby”

“Okay”

I pretended to flush and walked out of the bathroom.

I held out my hand to Jin Hao.

“Looks like we’re stuck together for this project.”

He glanced at my damp hand and refused to shake it, just grunted in reply.

“Babe! He tried to shake my hand, thank goodness I didn’t. I only want to hold your hand. When are we going to meet?”

Jin Hao.....Once, your “wife’s” hand was right in front of you, and you didn’t cherish it.

Now that I’ve pulled it back, you’ll regret it.
